Afghan Telecom, a state-owned telecommunications company, was established on 24 September 2005. Operating as a service-oriented and revenue-generating enterprise within the framework of state-owned companies, Afghan Telecom provides wired and wireless telecommunications and internet services through a range of technologies. These include fiber optics, FTTX, fixed line, DSL, fixed wireless technologies, satellite, 2G, 3G, and 4G.

The company has deployed approximately 7,000 kilometers of fiber optic infrastructure, which is considered the largest fiber optic network in Afghanistan. It also operates 1,300 Salaam network sites. The services provided by Afghan Telecom play an important role in the development of telecommunications, internet services, and telecom infrastructure in Afghanistan. Alongside private telecommunications companies, Afghan Telecom is recognized as one of the major providers of telecommunications services in the country.

The company has created direct employment opportunities for nearly 3,700 people and indirect employment opportunities for thousands of others.
